FAQ...
Who's behind the
BargainBar?
BargainBar is a joint effort
by a diverse group. Our mix includes everything from professionals
to housewives and househusbands, creating a cocktail of
knowledge from many fields. Between them, our team embodies
decades of online experience and maintains dozens of other
websites, including some of the longest-running daily "deal"
sites online.
Most importantly though,
just like everyone else, we're surfers and consumers...
just like you! BargainBar synthesizes the tools we use ourselves
every day for optimizing our time, for maintaining our systems
and, most importantly, for digging up money-saving bargains.

Yes, it's free. No strings,
no catches, no hidden costs, etc. Free.

No spyware -- are
you sure?
BargainBar doesn't include
or install or "open the door" for any spyware
or worms or viruses or anything else. It doen't intrude
on your privacy or track or transmit any information about
your surfing habits, etc. It's been checked (and is regularly
rechecked) against viruses. In other words, it's clean.
We're in this for the
long haul and our goal is to build the largest number
of users possible. We figure that the surest route toward
that goal is to try our hardest to give you easy access
to safe, useful tools and NOT to tick you off with any
sneaky stuff. It's just common sense... we want to establish
a reputation of trust and won't do anything that would
jeopardize that reputation.
One important cevat: Please
understand that we can only vouch for original
copies of the BargainBar that have been directly downloaded
from our site. If you find the BargainBar offered
through a third-party site, there's always a possiblity
that somebody could have "doctored" it before
making it available. Likewise, if a friend tells you just
to install from their download, don't blame us if it became
infected with a virus or some other scumware while passing
through their machine.

Do I have to register
or anything?
No, there is NO registration
or sign-up required for using the BargainBar. You can
remain as anonymous as you want. We do, however, hope
that you will choose to register
with us and subscribe to our newsletter.
Just for the record, if
you DO register (again, it's completely optional) the
information you provide still belongs to YOU, not to us
-- it will NOT be shared, sold, spread, etc. (Review our
Privacy Policy for more details.)

So, if it's free
and private, how does BargainBar make money?
We maintain affiliate
relationships with several hundred online retailers, from
small to large. When we find and report bargain sightings,
some of them will be via affiliated merchants. In such
cases, we will earn a small commission (typically in the
1% to 5% range) on any sales resulting from bargains that
we publish.
Please understand that
we DO NOT limit our bargain hunting only to merchants
with whom we have an affiliate relationship. We report
on the best money-saving opportunities we can find, wherever
they may be. Our philosophy is simple: The more and better
the bargains we help you find, the more frequently you'll
check our recommendations and the more likely you'll be
to notice an item that does generate revenue
for us.

Which browsers is
the BargainBar available for?
Presently, there are two
versions of BargainBar available, one for Internet Explorer
and one for Firefox. If you have both browsers installed
on your computer and some times switch between them, don't
worry... both versions of the BargainBar can happily co-exist
on your machine without any conflict.
We are exploring the possibility
of developing versions for other browsers or, possibly,
a "hosted" online version that could be used
from any computer (for example, if you were surfing while
visiting your Aunt Mildred.) There are no concrete timetables
for these alternatives yet, but we'll certainly keep registered
users up to speed if, when and as things develop.
What's
the story with the free surprise gifts?
Simple. To give you
a little extra motivation to check the daily bargain
listings (clicking the Moneybag icon on your BargainBar)
we give away free surprise gifts on an unscheduled basis.
Unscheduled?
Yep... that's part of what makes it a surprise. What
kind of gifts? One time it might be a popular DVD or
CD. Another time we might have four Compact Flash cards
or maybe two replica Big Ben desk clocks. In other words,
they're different all the time and you never know when
they'll appear, hiding in your toolbar. When you see
one, just click it and enter the drawing. The winner(s)
will be notified the following day. As the community
of BargainBar users grows, so will the quality and frequency
of the surprises (so tell
your friends to use BargainBar too!) Remember, you'll
ONLY be able to find surprise gift announcements and
enter directly from the BargainBar.
